Viaduct Housing Partnership is thrilled to announce that The Chimneys, its Gordon Street development in Stockport, has been awarded the Best Small Social Housing Development at the prestigious LABC Building Excellence Awards 2024. This project, a collaboration between Viaduct Housing Partnership, Dash Architecture, and Wiggett Construction, has set a new standard for affordable housing in the region.

The Chimneys, comprising 16 new build shared ownership homes, was designed and constructed with meticulous attention to detail, overcoming significant technical challenges along the way. The development team successfully navigated a complex site with high voltage cables and medium pressure gas mains. Their innovative approach resulted in savings of £60,000, which was reinvested into the project, ensuring that high-quality homes could be delivered on time and within budget.

The partnership with Wiggett Construction proved invaluable, particularly in addressing the complex site layout and heritage considerations related to the nearby Dodge Hill conservation area. The result is a beautifully finished development that blends traditional aesthetics with modern sustainability standards, including an impressive EPC B rating.

We are incredibly proud of this development and the recognition it has received. The Chimneys is a prime example of what can be achieved when passionate and skilled teams come together to deliver much-needed affordable housing. Our collaboration with Dash Architecture and Wiggett Construction was key to this success, and we look forward to continuing our work with such dedicated partners.

Dash Architecture played a crucial role in designing homes that not only meet high energy efficiency standards but also offer aesthetic appeal, using high-quality materials such as red brickwork, slate-effect roofs, and reconstructed cobbled roads to honour the area’s rich history. Recognition is also due to HNA architects and Build Vision Engineers for their invaluable technical expertise in bringing Dash’s concepts to reality.

The success of The Chimneys adds to Viaduct Housing Partnership’s growing portfolio of award-winning developments, further solidifying its reputation as a leader in the delivery of social housing across the Borough.
